Adventures in Babysitting (1987)

After being stood up, Chris reluctantly agrees to babysit. She settles in for a boring evening of television when her friend, in a panic, needs to be rescued at a bus station.

Chris piles the kids into the car and heads to Chicago where they are beset by troubles as some hoodlums chase them all over town.

I love the scene in the blues club where they mistakenly end up on stage and have to sing the blues in order to get down.

The Complete Adventures of Indiana Jones

Buyers hint: All four movies, in Blu-Ray format are slightly less than DVDs of each movie.

The run of these movies isn't entirely even but Indiana Jones has quite a following because the movies are well done.

Surely you've seen at least a couple, well it's time to go back to the beginning and follow the exploits of this archeologist cum college professor cum soldier of fortune (or at lease antiquities).

Indiana Jones (Indy to his friends) travels the world and enrages natives and the spirits in his hunt for treasures that are meant to be on display instead of used by the Nazis to bring down the might of God or whatever those pesky Germans are up to.

And in the latest episode, Indy has to jump back into action to save the world from the Soviet threat.

Indiana Jones is the modern form of the 50's adventure serials. He's bigger than life, his foes are the nastiest on Earth and it's not just about collecting antiques, Indy's saving the world by getting there first (for the good guys).

Air Force One (1997)

Harrison Ford is the President of the USA, not Jack Ryan, and is set upon by hijackers and has to fight from hiding to overcome them and retake Air Force One.

I love the scene when he tries to call the vice-president at the white house but doesn't know the number, ending up calling the main switchboard where the operator doesn't believe he is the President.

IMDB Score: 6.4/10
Amazon Score: 4.5/5

Angels & Demons (2009)

Based on an excellent book, Angels & Demons finds Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) in the Vatican to solve the mystery of captured cardinals, the Illuminati, the death of a physicist and the hidden location of a container of a devastating new antimatter substance.

Buying hint: The Blu-ray is cheaper than the DVD set.

IMDB Score: 6.7/10
Amazon Score: 4.0/5

The Back to the Future Trilogy (1985)

Well, October 21, 2015 has come and gone and we don't have self-tying shoes or flying cars, but the Back to the Future trilogy is still popular after 30 years.

Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travel through time in a converted DeLorean.

In the first installment, it is McFly that travels back in time to when Doc Brown first conceptualizes the Flux Capacitor. Without the plutonium to power the capacitor, he has to find a source for the immense power to send him back.

In the second installment the gang go to the future and then the present to keep the timeline from changing.

In the final installment, McFly travels to the old west to rescue a retired Doc Brown who isn't entirely sure he wants to be rescued.

The first movie is definitely the strongest film, but the others are still very entertaining.

IMDB Score: 8.5/10
Amazon Score: 4.5/5

Batman Begins (2005)

In this Batman franchise reboot, we discover the origin of Batman.

After training in Asia, Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City, takes up the mantel of Batman and goes after the evil Scarecrow and the League of Shadows.

I think this is the best of the Batman movies.

IMDB Score: 8.3/10
Amazon Score: 4.5/5

Fight Club

Buyer's Advice: Get the two-disk collector's edition, it is less expensive than the one-disk widescreen verion

I know it is cliche, but Fight Club is a great movie.

What do an office drone with no name and premium soap dealer Tyler Durden have in common? Well, nothing until our office drone's apartment blows up and he (known only as the narrator) moves in with Tyler and the rest of his life spins out of control.

The plot keeps you guessing until the end and the movie goes way beyond the titular Fight Club.

IMDB Score: 8.7/10
Amazon Score: 4.5/5

Gotcha! (1985)

Jonathan (Anthony Edwards) and Manolo (Nick Corri/Jsu Garcia) play a game called Gotcha on campus, where they hunt and are hunted by fellow students with paintball guns. (Hang on, this is important.)

The two vacation in France where Jonathan meets Sasha (Linda Fiorentino). She has him smitten and, against his better judgement, go to East Berlin where they become separated. But something is wrong, Jonathan is being hunted by spies. He finds a roll of film that isn't his in his backpack and thinks that this is what they are after.

It becomes a cat and mouse game where Jonathan hunts the hunters (see, I told you it was important) around town and on campus.

This is a fun movie.

IMDB Score: 6.1/10
Amazon Score: 4.5/5

Just because it stars underwear model Mark Wahlberg, don't discount this film.

The title roll is Bob Lee Swagger (Wahlberg). Swagger is out of the army and living his own life, isolated from as much of the rest of the world as he can manage.

The problem is, when he was in the army, he was a sniper and a very good one.

So, when the Secret Service needs the expertise of a really good shooter, his name comes up and he's pressed into service: protecting the President of the United States by figuring out how the president is going to be killed by persons as yet unknown.

That is the easy part. When things go sour and the attempt on the president's life is too close to the plan Swagger comes up with, Swagger becomes the suspect and the subject of an extensive nation-wide manhunt.

Now things are only starting to get bad.

This movie is an action thriller that keeps you going and keeps you guessing.
