The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)

A good sequel to The Hunger Games.  After winning The Hunger Games, the victor can live in peace and prosperity for the rest of their life.

That is until the 75th annual Games where instead of new players from each district, the Victors are chosen and pitted against one another.  So Katniss and peeta are again in the ring and must fight again.  This time, only one will survive.

IMDB Score 7.6/10
Amazon Score 4.4/5

Alien: Covenant (2017)

Alien: Covenant is the latest in the Alien series.

A colony ship detours from its route to investigate a transmission from a planet that looks too good to be true as a possible site for mankind.

Nice twists and better than the usual sequel.

IMDB Score 6.6/10
Amazon Score 3.5/5

Slipstream (1989)

A little-known movie starring Mark Hamill and Bill Paxton, this is the story of two officers that have apprehended a murderer only to lose him to a sort-of bounty hunter.

It’s post-apocalyptic fun where a steady wind (the slipstream) characterizes the new world.

Not a bad movie, but a bit light on plot and heavy on chase.  I got this is a collection of movies otherwise I wouldn’t have picked it up on its own.

IMDB Score 4.9/10
Amazon Score 2.7/5

The Hunger Games (2012)

From the wildly popular books, the first novel is made into this movie in a world where, each year, a contest is fought to the death when two Tributes are selected from each district and pitted against one another in a televised spectacle.

But before there was The Hunger Games, there was Battle Royale.

In this take, a girl volunteers to fight when her younger sister is chosen.

The story is good and the movie does it justice.  All three books where made into (4) movies.

IMDB Score 7.2/10
Amazon Score 4.4/5

One Shot (2005)

Made into a movie, One Shot is the story of a former sniper accused of killing five people like he killed four in Kuwait City while an Army sniper.

When arrested and charged, he just said he didn’t do it and that the police should get Jack Reacher.

Reacher heard of the killings and came to town to bury him not defend him.

Another good book in the series with some nice plot points.

Amazon Score 4.5/5
Thriftbooks Score 5.0/5

The Fountain (2006)

A somewhat disjoint movie about an animal researcher and surgeon who discovers the fountain of youth/tree of life by administering a natural cure from a formulation of an ancient tree to a monkey.

The side story is of his wife dying and him not being able to do anything about it, and the manuscript she is writing about the search for the tree of life in ancient times.

A good but not great movie.

IMDB Score 7.3/10
Amazon Score 4.0/5

Ancient Aliens (2009-)

Ancient Aliens is a series on The History Channel and investigates artifacts that point to early alien visitation to Earth.

So far, this is an interesting series that looks at early written records and artifacts.

IMDB Score 7.4/10
Amazon Score 4.5/6
