Inferno (2016)

Robert Langdon, suffering from amnesia teams with a doctor to follow memory fragments and other clues to try and stop a world-wide plague.

Not as good as the other Dan Brown adaptations, but still a good movie.

Death in Holy Orders (2003)

Based on the novel by P.D. James, the death of an ordinand is re-investigated to see if his death was really an accident or may instead have been a suicide or murder.  Meanwhile the Arch Deacon is looking to, at the least, remove treasures in art and possibly shut down the college.

This is a good mystery by the BBC.

IMDB Score 7.3/10

Death Race 2000 (1975)

About the same as the remake, Death Race 2000 is a cult classic where 5 drivers race cross country trying to not only be first to New Los Angeles, but also to collect as many points from killing pedestrians as possible.

Not a bad movie with a good mix of drama and action.

IMDB Score 6.2/10
Amazon Score 4.2/5

The Hard Way (2009)

Probably the best in the Reacher series, The Hard Way pits him against kidnappers who have taken a man’s wife and step daughter.  But Reacher’s employer is not what he seems and the crime not what he expected.

Thriftbooks Score 4.5/5

The Man Who Knew Infinity (2015)

The story of Srinivasa Ramanujan, a poor Indian man who excelled at mathematics.  This is the tale of how he finds his way to Cambridge and a brillian career in mathematics.

Another prodigy movie, this one is an interesting true tale of hard work to prove a man’s brilliance.

IMDB Score 7.2/10
Amazon Score 4.6/5

Whitey (1980)

Boys will be boys and Whitey (de Witte) is a boy.  This is another foreign drama about growing up and follows Whitey and a couple of his friends as they navigate school and chores.

I wasn’t able to find an NTSC release of this film, the links below are for PAL and the movie has gotten to be quite expensive for just an average film.

IMDB Score 6.7/10
Amazon Score 3.6/5

Wizards (1977)

A little bit Lord of the Rings and a little bit D&D, Wizards takes place in a post-post-apocalyptic world of magic and outlawed technology.

The mutants from the poisoned areas fight the magical beings of the clean areas.

A little slow.

IMDB Score 6.5/10
Amazon Score 4.5/5

Passengers (2016)

Wakened 90 years early, a colonist must find a way to reenter suspended animation or die before the ship reaches the new world.

After a year, Jim Preston falls in love with a slumbering Aurora Lane and, in desperation, brings her out of hibernation as well.  When she finds out it wasn’t a malfunction, she is furious.

Meanwhile, the ship is experiencing malfunctions and it is up to the two and a deck chief to repair the ship before all 5000 lives are lost.

This is the start of what hopes to be a new wave of great science fiction movies.

IMDB Score 7.0/10
Amazon Score 4.1/5

David’s Birthday (2009)

Two couples take a vacation.  When the son of one couple joins them, the husband of the other couple starts to crush on him.  How could this end badly?

This is an Italian movie that won film festival awards.  The Italian is pretty fast so it is a bit hard to keep up with the subtitles.  It is mostly a character study and succeeds well at that.

IMDB Score 6.5/10
Amazon Score 3.9/5
