Forced to live underground because of the new ice age, the people of colony 7 live in fear of a virus that could wipe them out.
Colony 5 has sent out a distress signal so a team is sent to investigate. They find a lone survivor. A team from Colony 5 was sent to a sunny spot of land, they didn’t find it, but they were followed back to the colony which was wiped out.
This is a pretty good movie, but it’s not innovative.

Fire-lizards are just a fable, aren’t they. Well when F’nor finds a little queen a whole can of worms is opened and Kylara isn’t about to be shown up by a brown rider.
Then there’s the Oldtimers, what to do about their hidebound ways? Their constant disrespect of the Holds and Crafts and their unreasonable demands of tithes are getting out of hand.
This is a good solid sequel in the series and provides more background on the world of Pern, with some new discoveries.

Deon Wilson has finally done it: he’s perfected true artificial intelligence. Before he can try it out however, the Scout he was going to rebuild and install the program on and he are kidnapped by drug dealers. Deon rebuilds the robot and installs the AI program and works with it. Now it comes down to who will end up with the robot, the drug dealers or Deon.
Meanwhile, Vincent Moore is trying to interest the police force in his Moose project instead of the Scouts they currently use. He’s not a nice man.
I wasn’t much impressed with this movie.

This film has great ratings and rightly so.
Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is killed by the Winter Soldier and it is up to Captain America (Chris Evans) and very few others to find the villain and restore SHIELD which has been compromised at its very core.
This is non-stop action and intrigue and is well done.
IMDB Score 7.8/10

Another series authored by a woman and with a woman’s perspective is The Dragonriders of Pern a series of 23 books that feature dragons and the riders on the fictional planet of Pern.
At the start of the series in Dragonflight, Lessa, fearing for her life after her family is killed lives life as a drudge in Ruatha Hold. Lessa is found during a Search for dragonrider candidates and later Impresses the queen hatchling Ramoth.
There are politics and duels as Lessa climbs her way to be Weyrwoman of Benden Weyr.
I was surprised at how old this series was. It stand up well to time and is certainly worth a read.

The privileged live on Elysium, a space station in orbit around Earth, and the impoverished live on the surface. Max (Matt Damon) lives on the surface of Earth and was exposed to lethal radiation in a job accident. He has five days to live. He is given a chance to get a cure if he’ll go with a team to Elysium to do one final job.
This is a good movie. Damon does a great job with the part and there is enough depth to keep it interesting.

Todd 3465 has been a soldier from birth. Then a new batch of super-soldiers is made, and after a “training accident” he is left for dead. On a waste disposal planet where his body is dumped, he is taken in by some crash survivors.
When the new soldiers make a routine sweep of the planet, they try to exterminate the survivors. It is up to Todd 3465 to defend them.
I’ve always liked this movie. It’s your standard action flick but it seems to have something more.

A psychologist (George Clooney) is summoned to investigate strange happenings on the Solaris space station. Solaris is in orbit around a mysterious planet. The planet seems to know that it’s being studied and changes.
The crew has been seeing things and it starts to happen to Chris (Clooney). Chris calls them Visitors, each person begins to see someone from their life, someone who is dead.
This film is a bit too surreal for me.
This is a remake of a Russian film by the same name, but of stellar reviews.

Number 5 (Johnny 5) goes to the big city and gets conned by some crooks into helping them with a robbery. Hijinks ensue.
This isn’t as good as the original movie but it’s cute.
